What happens when you have chronically tight muscles? Chances are you have a lot of pain. The Back Pain Project recognizes that along with bones being out of place there are muscles that are being overworked. The muscle can be either weak or too short resulting in more pain. Active Release is a way to identify painful, weak muscles and correct the imbalance caused when lower back muscles become a burden. Active Release is a highly specialized technique that allows for greater healing of bad lower backs, knees, shoulders, basically the entire neuromuscular system.
To better explain this soft tissue treatment we have to dive into a bit of neurology. Everything in your body is controlled thru the central nervous system. The central nervous system then gets feedback and directs traffic thru the peripheral nervous system. Trigenics is another method to reconnect the muscles thru the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system (including your brain).
Weakened or short muscles give off faulty information causing lower back pain thru the system just described. Using large diameter afferent nerves, Trigenics helps restore the neural connection. There are 2 primary receptor sites Golgi Tendon Organs and muscle spindle cells. The muscle spindle receptor sites are located in the muscle fibers. These are manipulated by stimulating multiple pathways to the brain allowing a weak muscle to be reintegrated into the central nervous system allowing greater strength in the weak muscles.
Shortened muscles fire off aberrant signals to the brain via the Golgi Tendon Organs. Similar to muscle spindle cells, the Golgo Tendon Organ is reconnected to the brain by activating the receptor nerves located in the muscle tendon. Now, what does this mean for you as a patient at The Back Pain Project? By using cutting-edge therapies we are able to deliver better results instead of using the chiropractic adjustment alone. The longer a condition exists in the body the more confused these nerves become which has a deleterious effect on your body’s ability to heal. By removing nerve blockages the body is better equipped to heal.
If you are tired of living with lower back pain you are advised to call The Back Pain Project to get started back onto the path of optimal living. Of course, if you have any questions call us 203-656-3638,
Most frequent questions and answers
What is Active Release Technique (ART)?
Active Release Technique (ART) is a hands-on therapy used to treat soft tissue injuries and pain. It involves applying pressure to specific points on the body while the patient performs specific movements.
How long does an ART session last?
An ART session typically lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the specific condition being treated and the extent of the injury.
How does ART treat back pain?
ART can be used to treat a variety of back pain conditions, including muscle strains, sprains, and tension. The technique is designed to break up adhesions or scar tissue in the affected area, which can help reduce pain and improve mobility.
How many sessions of ART are needed to treat back pain?
The number of ART sessions needed to treat back pain can vary depending on the severity of the condition and the individual’s response to treatment. Some patients may experience relief after just one or two sessions, while others may require several weeks of treatment.
Is ART painful?
ART can be uncomfortable at times, but it should not be excessively painful. The therapist will work with you to adjust the pressure and movements as needed to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the session.
Is ART covered by insurance?
ART may be covered by some insurance plans, but it is important to check with your provider to determine your specific coverage. If ART is not covered by your insurance, the therapist may offer payment plans or other options to help make the treatment more affordable.
